My Poetry

This is a collection of some of my poetry. Enjoy!!

“A Soul”

The spirit and the flesh and blood

were joined upon the earth.

The holy and the common mud,

joined by mortal birth.

Their goals were, as we realize;

very different from the start.

The body wanting through the eyes,

the spirit through the heart.

The two of them were not the same,

they battled constantly.

The body gave the spirit shame

and wanted to be free.

A kingdom that’s divided

is destined to the fall.

The two joined; not united,

cannot give it their all.

The more refined began to teach

the common of its goal

of how the father they could reach

together as a soul.

Their path was filled with strife;

with struggles and with pain.

They wanted an eternal life,

to be free from earthly stain.

The spirit and the dust

now had a common sight.

Something that for both was just,

they worked with all their might.

Their heart was in it every day,

outside of the worldly game;

where many bodies went their way

and the spirits did the same.

The glory they achieved,

could never be explained.

The happiness that they received,

would never be contained.

The spirit and the flesh and blood,

had reached their earthly goal.

The holy and that common mud

were now a lovely soul.

Two Spiders

Two spiders spun their webs

In two very different places.

I will tell you how they came

To occupy these spaces

One day a wise old spider

Showed two friends the secret way

That they could both be like him

And live in strength some day

They both agreed it could be done

If they followed in his plan

They looked at him with much respect

Each said the words “I Can!”

Both spiders started working hard

They surely gave their best

As time went on, while one would work

The other liked to rest

Herein came the greatest change

Between these spiders two

The one would be most diligent

The other would fret and stew

In time the hardest working spider

Would see results compounded

While the other in his lazy efforts

Found his returns confounded

So now we see two spiders

And how their time was spent

One spider gained the promised prize

The other not a cent

That is how two spiders spun

In two very different places

It came from all the choices made.

Their diligence picked their spaces.

The Call

I received my call today,

I wonder where I’ll go.

Will it be another place?

Somewhere I don’t know?

Will it be an easy mission,

that’s simple from the birth

or will it be a hard commission

like serving there on Earth?

I wonder where I’m headed,

I’m scared to look inside,

but for all those times I’ve dreaded

and all the times I’ve cried,

I know it’s somewhere special

where I’m needed ‘til I’ve died.

All my friends were there

as excited as was I.

I opened it with gentle care,

looked, and could only cry.

They called me to a special place

specific just for me.

You could see the excitement in my face

though tears were all you’d see.

They called me to a family

whose love for God was great.

I didn’t know how this could be,

but I could hardly wait.

I started preparation

for my mortal birth.

My missions destination

was a place that we called Earth.

The time arrived for me to leave.

I didn’t feel prepared.

My best friend grabbed me by the sleeve

and told me he was scared.

 His eyes were fully watered

as he began to cry.

I could tell that he was bothered

while he slowly told me why.

“I’m going to a different place

where God is still unknown.

Will you come there just in case

I don’t find him on my own?”

“Will you look with all your heart

and search both night and day?

Will you please go do your part

and help me find the way?”

I hugged him tight and told him yes

my heart felt kind of numb.

I told him just to do his best

and be ready when I come.

 I don’t remember anything

about that special day.

My memories I couldn’t bring

I guess it’s not God’s way.

I received my call today

I wonder where I’ll go.

Will it be another place?

Somewhere I don’t know?

Will it be another people

who’s belief in God is bold

or will they be the type of people

who believe that God is gold?

I’m wondering where I will be

for two years of my life.

Is someone waiting there for me

to take them from their strife?

I opened up my letter

and took a look inside.

No place on Earth was better,

I whispered as I cried.

They called me to a special place

specific just for me.

You could see the excitement in my face

Though tears were all you’d see.

I can’t believe the time has come

for me to serve the Lord.

I know that he will help me some

to teach and share his word.

I entered in a different land

to look for his lost sheep.

He pushed me with his gentle hand,

my safety he did keep.

I found a man today,

who wanted to know more.

In my mind I seemed to say,

“I’ve met this man before.”

He came into our masters fold,

his heart was filled with joy.

His old life he had gladly sold

to become as a little boy.

Remembering that special day,

the joy that filled my heart.

We were destined in a way

to find him from the start.

My life had run it’s normal stay

on this Earth that I did roam.

I received my call today,

I guess I’m going home.

I prayed to God both day and night

that I would do my part.

The burdens I had he made light.

I loved him with all my heart.

I came home; he was waiting there,

he took me in his arms.

He held me with such gentle care,

I’ve never felt so warm.

He whispered in his gentle tone

The love he had for me.

The price he paid for me, to own

In the Garden of Gethsemane.

I could not speak, my joy was filled

as tears streamed down my face.

I realized, for me, he was killed

To get me to this place.

He thanked me for a job well done

and said, “I knew you could….”

With a smile brighter than the sun…

“and always hoped you would!”

His loving eyes looked to a man

Standing by the way.

He saw me, smiled and at me ran

not knowing what to say.

It was my friend from long ago,

I felt my heart strings tug.

The joy I felt did brightly show

as I grabbed him with a hug.

He said “ You came, you found me there

and helped me find the way.

You looked and searched with gentle care

and baptized me one day.”

“I went there searching from the start

and prayed you’d do the same.

I knew you’d come with all my heart

and was ready when you came.”

The love I felt right then,

could hardly be compared

to the love our Savior has for men

and the sacrifice he shared.

He died for us that we might live

and raise up from the dead.

Twas the greatest gift that he could give,

he loved us for this he bled.

I know my savior loves me

with all my simple heart.

Just ask him, pray and you will see,

he has always, from the start.

This next poem was written more for a song. It is in a different format because there is a conversation between the Father and his child. The left columns are the child, the right columns are the father and the center is both of them speaking simultaneously.

Oh Father…

Oh Father

Are you really there?

Can you hear my prayer?

I’ve been struggling, standing, kneeling

Looking for you everywhere.

My Child,

Long before your birth

I have known your worth.

I would never leave a precious one

Like you alone on Earth.

I am not

Where I’d like to be.

With you next to me.

Won’t you open up my heart, pour in

The love you promised me?

You might not see me

But if your heart is clear

You will feel me here

Will you open up the space for me

Allow me to come near?

Oh Father

Where are you now?

I so humbly bow

And ask thee how to do thy will

I don’t know how!

When will you hear me?

I am so close to you

When will you let me through?

The subtle words within your heart

Will tell you what to do!

Please Father

Will you come to me?

Show me how to be

Thy tool of light

In a world of disbelief.

I am

waiting here for you

I have been here all along. What would you have me do?

When will you allow me to be what I can be?

Open up so that I can be set free?

I will not

Do anything

without you allowing me

So open up and allow me to be free!

My Father

Can I be next to you?

Will you hold me through?

Won’t you open up my heart, pour in

The love you promised to?

My Child

I’m here next to you

I am holding you!

Open up your heart I’ll pour in

The love I promised to.

I will not

Do anything

without you allowing me

So open up and allow me to be free!

I am

waiting here for you

I‘ve been here all along. What would you have me do?

When will you allow me to be

what I can be?

open up so that I can be set free

I will not

Do anything

without you allowing me

So open up and allow me to be free!

I am

waiting here for you

I‘ve been here all along. What would you have me do?

When will you allow me to be

what I can be?

open up so that I can be set free
