Not To Be Confused With Motivation

Modevation is a combination of motivation, meaning to provide with an incentive, move to action or to impel; and mode, which is used to describe the creation of processes and transformational systems for success. By placing the two together, you gain the enthusiasm to reach any goal and the systems necessary for your absolute success.

I advise individuals and businesses in creating the systems and processes they will need in order to reach their goals. Because each of my clients has their own unique experience with my coaching and no two systems are the same, allow me to illustrate what was achieved by a client of mine who has objectives that may closely relate to yours.

 

CRS Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is a mechanical contracting company specializing in luxury water systems for high end homes and commercial buildings in the state of Utah.  They service well known, high reputation individuals from around the nation who demand the absolute best in plumbing. Cleve, the owner of this company, did an amazing job at building a multi-million dollar corporation by providing excellent service and delivering an extremely high quality of workmanship, yet something was amiss within his organization.  Although his company was bringing in large amounts of revenue, the profit he was making after covering his expenses was a lot lower than it should have been.

 

Cleve engaged my services and we immediately set out to discover what it was that was not working within his organization.  Within the first week of working together, we found the obstacle. For five years Cleve had been running a multi-million dollar company exclusively from his own head. Like many business owners, he knew what needed to happen, where everything was and he worked like the dickens to do what he promised his clients. Unfortunately for him, his skills couldn’t be duplicated and as his company grew, he ended up working harder and harder, juggling every position in the company, while important functions within his business began to slip. One thing after another led to lost productivity, less than stellar workmanship and ultimately lost profit.

 

We determined together that it was time to empty the brain; it was time to get the processes he had tucked away in his 90 million mile an hour mind into models that could be followed by the rest of his employees. During our first month together I interviewed him relentlessly and questioned everything he did. I didn’t do this to challenge his abilities; I did it to find out his method for running his company, what his expectations were and where he would like to be.  With the information we gained, we established processes for each area of his business from pre lien filing to answering the phones and everything in between; everything that was necessary for success.

 

Throughout the following months we put these systems into practice and tested each one.  We were quickly able to see gaps and took immediate action to fill them. Cleve disclosed his expectations and the adapted company policies to each person in the corporation. Every person received the opportunity to agree to the terms. Even Cleve, the owner of his own company, agreed to lead by example and follow the policies just like everyone else.

 

 As he implemented this new program, it was very difficult at first, he wasn’t very good at it and neither were his employees. I taught them my principle of “Wobble”, which says that anytime someone starts to create something they have never done before, it can be hard, uncomfortable and at times disappointing. But if they stick with it long enough, the wobbling will smooth out, they will become more effective at what they are attempting and they will begin to see success. I taught him and his employees that most people quit during the wobble, feeling that because it’s difficult, it must not be working. Yet, if those people would just hold on, adjusting with the feedback through the wobble, they would gain success every time.

 

Every person in his company got this concept and took on the challenge of making CRS Mechanical Utah’s premier contractor for luxury water systems.

 

We noticed an enormous shift in the company. Production increased, employees took accountability for their actions, the quality of work increased dramatically, time on jobs was reduced and profitability increased. Each employee was converted into an intrapreneur; they treated CRS Mechanical as if it were their own company.

 

In a short period of six months, Cleve was able to create a dynamic transformation in his company. He established systems that will carry him through any economy and is continuing his quest for excellence. I am glad I can be a part of it.
