The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

gavel

Why is it that when people are guilty, that they take the truth to be so hard? Why do we walk around softening the truth for people because we fear that we might hurt their feelings? I say, let them get their feelings hurt; it may do them some good. This may sound harsh; therefore I reference my first question.

What is it about the truth that scares people? Is it that they might hear something that they already know and don’t want to admit? Doesn’t telling the truth mean to tell it as it is, to give an accurate and correct accounting?

I don’t believe in middle grounds. To me there are truths and there are lies. Anything that is not truth is a lie. So these little nuances that people use to skirt clarity really don’t serve anyone. They are forms of deceit and are more harmful to one’s self than the truth.

People love to cater to the “victim”, they love the stories that allow them to come in and take that poor soul into their arms and say, “You poor, poor thing” never realizing that little miss poor thing tends to create situations like this for this very reaction. Imagine being Simon Cowell for a day. Imagine saying to this person, “You are an accountable human being and if you would choose differently, things might actually go better for you.” Oh, I can hear the crowd “Booing” you for such a harsh comment. But isn’t it the truth? Don’t people need to hear it?

It seems like the truth is shunned these days and that is very unfortunate. It seems society is too scared to call it like it is. What changed? We cannot get where we want to go with inaccurate information. It does me a great disservice if you tell it to me any other way than the way it actually is.

Here is my challenge. Be honest with people! Be bold and care enough about them to tell them the truth!

I love this quote! This is one of my favorites.

“People travel to wonder at the highest of the mountains,

at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of rivers,

at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of

the stars, and yet they pass by themselves

without wondering.”

-St. Augustine

Believing is Achieving

As I believe something, my heart and soul go into it. It consumes me and I must share it with all who will listen. My success depends on it. I ask myself over and over again… “Why am I not succeeding at this? Why am I not good at that?” It is because I don’t believe it for me, for if I did believe, I would be it, do it or have it. It is the lack of belief that creates so much failure in our society. People are afraid to believe anything anymore. Because of this, there is no conviction. Without belief, there is no bright future.

When was the last time you had a cause? When was the last time you knew and I mean with all your heart, knew you could be, do or have something? When was the last time you stood for something?

Joan of Arc said this of belief:
I know this now. Every man gives his life for what he believes.
Every woman gives her life for what she believes. Sometimes
people believe in little or nothing, yet they give their lives to
that little or nothing. One life is all we have and we live it as
we believe in living it. And then it is gone. But to sacrifice what
you are and live without belief, that’s more terrible than dying.

In the world exists a serious epidemic of unbelief. Yet within the world are people who stand as lights in the darkness. It is to these people that we go to build up the courage to believe.

In the Bible Jesus was talking to a father who’s child was ill and said:
… If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears,
Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

If you find yourself doubting, look to those who have never lost their vision and belief. Let their light be your light until yours is strong enough to stand on its own.

Isn’t it time to start believing again?

Becoming the Informationalist

trinity-college-library-dub

If you look at the history of wealth, you see common themes among the people who became the absolute leaders and wealth holders. Their titles are diverse in each era and carry different roles.

Warrior—In the hunting-gathering time of the ancients, the warrior was considered to be the leader. He who could protect not only himself but others was looked to for leadership. People would flock to him for safety from the dangers of others and nature. Today’s warriors do not control the wealth.

Land Baron—In medieval times, land barons were the wealthy. They controlled the land and made the rules for its use. He who had land became the leader and phased out the need for one warrior. He converted it to a need for many warriors. People would flock to him for the use of his real estate and relative safety. Today’s land barons are called landlords and they do not control the wealth.

Industrialist—In modern times, the land baron was replaced by the industrialist. The industrialist provided safety and support by providing jobs and security in the converted world. He lived in a world of big business, manufacturing and automation. People would flock to him to provide for their families. Today’s industrialists are big business. They are losing their appeal and control of the wealth.

Capitalist— Even more recently, the industrialist was replaced by the capitalist, a person who saw opportunity to turn money into more money. Capitalists and investors became synonymous. They found ways to create returns from anything. People would flock to them for the hope of a better future. Today’s capitalists work from Wall Street. They are losing mass appeal and the control of wealth.

Now the Informationalist—We now live in the information age, a time when information floats more freely and globally than it ever has in history. People seek knowledge and understanding. They seek to know why they are here, where they came from and where they are going. They want to know now. They want information at their finger tips. They seek enlightenment. We now enter the time of the Google’s, the Microsoft’s, the knowledge centers and inspirational leadership. We enter a time of knowing and those who know are becoming the warriors, land barons, industrialists and capitalists of the past. The Informationalist is taking over the control of wealth and is becoming the new leader.

You have a choice, maintain your old ways of creating wealth and become the common warriors, land barons, industrialists and capitalists, or adapt into the new position of Informationalist.

Become the leader of the future.

Are you an Intrapreneur or an Employee?

image-guy-2

If I gave you $2000.00, $5,000.00 or $10,000.00 a month and promised you that I would give this to you each month for as long as you choose, adjusting it upward with inflation and your ability to perform, what could you create? This would be enough money for you to buy whatever it is in your life that you need; your health, your clothes, your house, cars, food, gas and everything else necessary for you to be creative. With that type of consistent income, you wouldn’t have to worry about money again, you would be free. The only stipulation is that you create value not only for yourself, but for me. All I ask is that you use your genius to provide a nice return, not only for your family, but mine and those I associate with. I’m giving you the opportunity to be as creative as you can be in improving the world in which we live, your livelihood and mine.

Imagine the possibilities of this. Could you not do anything if you never had to worry about money again? Could you build your dreams the way you have always wanted to? Could you do anything?

This is how an intrapreneur looks at business. Intrapreneur’s are like entrepreneurs in that they are creative, inventive, diligent, efficient workers, value initiators, team players and more. The only difference between them is that the entrepreneur starts new businesses and the intrapreneur works within the organization the entrepreneur creates.

Intrapreneur’s are just as powerful as the entrepreneurs. They have a lot of the same traits and abilities and they see their income as an opportunity to create value for all. Intrapreneur’s are self motivated and self directed individuals. They are constantly looking for ways to improve the world in which they operate. They never wait to be told what to do or which action to take. They see the bigger picture and work towards its attainment. Intrapreneurs are what great organizations deserve.

Employees are not intrapreneurs, nor are they entrepreneurs. They care only about doing what they are told and lack self direction. They are there to collect a paycheck and perform at the minimum required levels. They have a mindset of deserving to be taken care of. Nothing ever happens because of their actions. It is always someone else’s fault. Employees are unaccountable, backbiting, gossiping individuals who care only for themselves. They see no hope in the future and would just as soon talk about their favorite TV show rather than the possibilities. Employees are not dreamers. They are not value creators, efficient workers, team players, creative, inventive, diligent or anything else that would benefit others.

Does this sound harsh to you? Congratulations, you may have just found out that you have been operating with an employee mindset.

Why not see it differently? Operate from the space of the entrepreneur or the intrapreneur. Leave the employee thinking behind.

So, which one are you, the employee or the intrapreneur?

Which one are you hiring?

I hope it’s the latter.

The Ugly Step Sister Syndrome

image007
Someone steps up and does something fantastic or does something amazing and they want to share it with the world. When they do, as in the case of the ugly step sisters and Cinderella, they are torn down, torn apart, torn to pieces and left in rags mentally and physically. This is what I call the Ugly Step Sister Syndrome. It’s a case of someone seeing another person succeeding, or being more beautiful or powerful than they think they are. They may be just as beautiful and powerful, but because they don’t see themselves that way, they tear others down they tear them to pieces, they shred them apart. There are people in this world that will do that to you. You will be on top of the world and excited about what you are creating and as you tell them, they will tear you apart.
If you’ll notice in the case of Cinderella, the fairy godmother does not make Cinderella rich or wealthy. She makes her feel so beautiful that she goes out and takes action. Because of this she meets the prince and her life is changed forever as the prince pursues her. She values in herself to the degree that she goes out and finds her success, it is not just given to her. What a great story of taking what was once torn apart, taking a bad situation and turning it into a dream come true.
Each of us needs that mentor, that fairy godmother who teaches us and shows us the value we hold so that we can feel on top of the world and get out there and take the action necessary for us to maintain that. My challenge is to not let people tear you down, to not be distraught because of other people’s words and actions, but to take action and to find the mentor who will build you up in difficult times. I can promise you that if you will do this, you will have the success you’ve been seeking.

Gain the Yes by gathering the No’s.

There is nothing personal when someone says, “NO!” What the person is saying is this isn’t for me right now. It is not possible for a person to reject you. They might reject your appearance, your words, your presentation, the item or the idea, but it’s not a rejection of you because all of those things are external expressions, they are not you.
There can be a lot of factors to a turn down. The timing may be wrong, the item or idea may be of little or no interest to the hearer in that moment. Essentially they are saying, “This isn’t for me!”
I think it sad when someone takes a “No” as reflection of who they are. It has nothing to do with the real you and everything to do with it working in the life of the person considering the request you have presented. When people say “No” they are saying, “not here, not now or not this” for they always say yes to what will fit into their goals.
Let people say no. You need to hear it because if you are not hearing it, you are not asking for enough. Collect no’s like you would collect baseball cards. You want as many as possible because hidden among them are the valuable yes’s. You want them, because they don’t reflect who you truly are. They act as feedback, which allows you to adjust and ultimately gain the prize.

The Outsider Effect

rejected

The minute a person is shunned from a group, they become an outsider and they are not allowed back in unless they abide by the rules of the group. In some cases, the rules are so stringent, that the outsider can never get into the group. We as people separate and distinguish who can be invited into the group and who cannot. We have our own ideas of what is acceptable and what is not. It doesn’t matter if this is a group of one or a group of 1 million, if there is a person that doesn’t fit the mold, the group will make sure the individual knows and make them feel so uncomfortable that they will either separate themselves from the group or the group will have the “miscreants” cast out. This occurs with employees, it occurs with friends, church groups, races, societies, classes and etc.
I can take any group that is supposedly united and divide them into two teams for the purposes of playing a game and even though they are “united” in their cause, the game will cause them to create the outsider effect. One group will be pegged against the other and although it’s in the name of fun or the “game,” they will be against each other. Thus both sides become the outsider to the other. This tells me that very few people work outside of this model.
My goal is to be conscious of this outsider effect. It is ok for people to be different and choose differently. Because they don’t fit the ideal of the “model citizen”, doesn’t give anyone the right to treat them any different than the way they would like to be treated.
I invite you to be conscious of the same. Everyone has a story that makes them who they are. I feel that each unique individual has the right to choose and live the way they would like as long as it doesn’t harm others. Are you open enough to allow them the same opportunity?

Distraction kills the law of attraction!

The greatest killer of dreams is distraction. A distraction is something that takes our focus off of the object of attention and onto the distraction. Most of us don’t reach our dreams because we allow unimportant things to take our eye off of what’s most important. How often do you find yourself watching a favorite TV show, surfing the net, blogging, playing video games, card games, playing with friends and on and on, all at the cost of what you truly want? These are not bad things to do. However, when they take your eye from the goal, they are like the worst poison placed ever so carefully in your Achilles heel. They seem like small insignificant things, yet as they compound over time, they take us significantly off course. Our mind has a tendency to want to chase these distractions because their reward is almost always instant. Although the reward is instant, it is fleeting and will not bring lasting fulfillment. To overcome distraction, you must focus on your end goal and be vigilant constantly. Distraction kills the law of attraction because our focus is constantly shifting. We become as a ship of the sea being tossed to and fro with the waves and wind without direction. What are your distractions? What are the unimportant things you are doing on a daily basis that take you away from your family, your business goals and anything else of import? Write them down so you recognize them when you’re doing them. Ask yourself the following questions– Are they important? Will this get me what I truly want? What am I doing?
Some words of advice; turn off the TV, spend some time with your family and do your work efficiently.

Keep your motor running!

goodall_11
As long as an airplane engine continues to run, an airplane can continue to rise or run level in a forward motion. But the minute that engine shuts off, the airplane will begin to descend, lose forward momentum, lose progress and eventually if it doesn’t change, will crash. So it is with our lives. If we continue to move forward and push forward on a daily basis and keep our motors running, we will reach our destination. It’s when we give up and turn the motor off and say it’s too hard or it’s too much work; that we start to descend. We lose all altitude and eventually will crash. It is up to us whether we continue forward or stop and crash. Keep your motors running by:
1- Maintaining the focus on your goal
2- Make sure you can reach your goal with the resources you have
3- Work on what you can while maintaining balance
4- Take on what you can handle and complete it
5- Work when it’s time to work, play when it’s time to play and rest when it’s time to rest.
